David Finster’s work is influenced by British sculptor
Henry Moore. Based on the human form, his earlier work
combined massive block-like figures with elongated
curvilinear forms. Today, he reaches towards softer,
more lyrical forms with clean simple lines producing a
statement of grace.
"The artistic process involves a respect for the human
form, combining simplicity of line and shape along with negative space
to express the true essence of my subject matter. Although my objective
is sometimes to elicit an emotional response from the viewer, it is enough
to know that the piece appeals to his own aesthetic criteria – that it moves
him one way or another, emotionally or intellectually."
David Finster was born in Corvallis, OR in 1944,
attended Linfield College in McMinnville, OR where he
received an undergraduate degree in Art. His work has
been exhibited in British Columbia, Puerto Vallarta,
Portland, OR, the Oregon Coast and Denver and he has
participated in Sculpture in the Park, Loveland, as
well as the Iowa Sculpture Festival, Newton, IA.
He is currently being shown in the Creative Eye Gallery,
Denver, CO and the Freed Galleries in Lincoln City and
Pacific City, OR.
